A long overdue update.

The last six months have been crazy!  Last November I completed the NY marathon, but I haven't been for a run since.  I haven't been completely lazy -- my intramural soccer team recently lost in the B-league semi-finals.  The big news is that I successfully defended my dissertation on April 10, 2009 and will officially obtain my degree on May 17.  Below is a picture of me ringing the Wren Chapel's bell (a tradition for graduates at William and Mary).  The next step is to find a career that is interesting and challenging.  I am leaning towards trying to find a job in alternative energy, however I am open to anything right now.  I'll keep you updated.

Nike+ May: 60+mi.

I was so close to meeting my goal last month and then I went on vacation.  I really need to learn to motivate myself when I'm away from home.  Next month I am going to Colorado and if I skip lots of runs there, I can kiss the NY Marathon goodbye.  On a bright side I was feeling pretty good during my runs last month and I am at 16mi./week, just short of the recommended 20mi./week base.  This month I am only going for 60mi. again.  Let's see if I can blow this goal out of the water.

Nike+ April: 60 mi.

I finally met my goal last month!  This month I am stepping up the miles.  Let's see how spring showers affect my mileage though.  I am switching from trying to run every other day to trying to run Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  By June I want to be running 80 mi./month.

Nike+ March: 50 mi?

So last month I got hit by the flu... I promise!  Hopefully this month I can finally make my goal.  I have lost over 10 pounds since I started running this year (down from 193 to 182).  I better start eating more or else I'll be just skin and bones.  On a side note I lost my nike+ sensor for a couple of weeks so of course I had to buy another one at Target.   I noticed that my pacing was much faster...like 15%.  When I found my old sensor I returned the new one to Target and suddenly my pacing was slower again.  I guess nike+ isn't the most reliable system but it is still fun to use.

P.S. I just realized I start every post with "So ...".  So next time I'll try to avoid that.

Nike+ February: 40 mi?

So last month's goal didn't really work out.  Let's try this again.  By the way, I just found out I have an outtoeing problem with my right foot.  I guess that explains the injuries I've had over the last couple of years.  I just hope nice consistent training will be enough to take me to NY this year.
